Methodist Children’s Home of Southwest Louisiana, located in Sulphur, held a Plaque Dedication Ceremony Thursday, November 13. The ceremony was an opportunity for the organization’s staff and administration to honor the many donors who helped make the Home a reality.
The facility for children, dedicated in 2010, is located near the intersection of Highway 27 and Houston River Road. The grounds are comprised of approximately 40 acres with a residential facility and an administrative building. The residential building houses 24 boys ages 10 through 17. The 25,000 square foot facility, made possible in large part by the William L. Henning family, is the finest of its kind in Louisiana.
During construction, opportunities were made available to donors who wished to fund particular rooms and furnishings. Plaques were designed and hung as reminders of those whom donors wished to honor or memorialize. Families whose names are represented on the plaques located throughout the children’s home attended the Plaque Dedication Ceremony and heard the words of dedication offered by chaplain of the home, Rev. Edie Finch.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome by Mr. Randy Roach, Mayor of Lake Charles. Rev. Edie led the invocation; Rev. Steven Spurlock, the Lake Charles District Superintendent, read Scripture; President/CEO Rick Wheat presented the plaques for dedication; and Dr. Steven Franks, Director of the Home, shared words of gratitude with the donors. Rev. Edie led a responsive reading of dedication and President Emeritus Terrel DeVille closed with a few words and a benediction. After the ceremony, staff of the Home led donors on tours of the facility and refreshments were served.
Methodist Children’s Home of Southwest Louisiana is thrilled to pursue its mission of “guiding children and families home to experience God’s love by following the teachings of Christ” with the generous support of the Southwest Louisiana community.
