May is National Foster Care Month
Since 2015, the LUMCFS Methodist Foster Care (MFC) program has become Louisiana’s leading program for therapeutic foster care needs. We care for children in desperate need of unconditional love and shelter. The MFC program recruits, trains, certifies, and actively supports a statewide network of families providing TFC. Our offices are in Alexandria, Covington, Lafayette, Shreveport, and Monroe.
May is National Foster Care Month—a time to recognize and support the incredible foster families, children, volunteers, and staff. Methodist Foster Care (MFC) is dedicated to providing children with safe, loving homes, and this year, we’re celebrating ten years of service. Every day, countless remarkable individuals step forward to care for children in need, profoundly impacting their lives.
Maravia Montgomery is one of the many heroes who has answered the call to foster:
“I used to be a foster child. I always said that when I was an adult, I would be a foster parent just to give back.“ Maravia Montgomery, Former MFC Parent
True to her word, Maravia and her husband answered the call, fostering more than 25 children. After 15 years of fostering, the Montgomerys adopted a foster child through Methodist Foster Care. Maravia’s commitment and MFC’s support have given this youth a forever home!
Maravia is one of many heroes who have stood in the gap for Louisiana’s foster children. The need for foster parents like Maravia is steadily increasing. An average of 4,100 children are in foster care in Louisiana daily, but the number of foster homes is less than half this number.
“Kids need foster parents because they just need the assurance that they have a home and that they are loved.“
As the demand for homes rises, Louisiana’s foster children need our help more than ever. Join us during National Foster Care Month to support Louisiana foster families, parents, and children. You can make a difference by supporting our Methodist Foster Care program through:
- Offerings at your church

Together, let’s create a brighter future for children in foster care.
“Out of all the agencies we’ve fostered with, I have to say Methodist is our favorite. If you have a problem, you can call them…and they’re there! That’s the reason [Methodist Foster Care] is my favorite.“

Become a Therapeutic Foster Care Parent!
Founded in 2015, Methodist Foster Care has grown to be Louisiana’s leading program for therapeutic foster care needs. We care for children in desperate need of unconditional love and shelter, which only an MFC foster family can provide. The MFC program recruits, trains, certifies, and actively supports a statewide network of families providing TFC. Our offices are in Alexandria, Covington, Lafayette, Shreveport, and Monroe. Our children come from difficult places, and we welcome them all! Our families care for children throughout Louisiana, and they reflect the diverse demographics of our state.
Become a Therapeutic Foster Care Parent!
When a child has nowhere to go and no one to turn to, you may be the answer! Methodist Foster Care recruits, trains, certifies, and actively supports a state-wide network of families who provide Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC), a family-based treatment in specially trained foster homes for foster children.
What is Therapeutic Foster Care?
Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) allows a child to live in a caring home with trained and supported TFC parents who help a child while her or his family receives help. In TFC, a child receives treatment for emotional needs from community-based mental health professionals. Therapeutic Foster Families offer a child a supportive family setting until the child can return to her or his natural family or a permanent home is created for the child.
No matter how big your heart is, no one expects you to care for a child without financial help. Depending on the needs of the child, you will receive either $36 or $60 per child per day in order to cover room and board, clothing, and extra-curricular activities. Also, as an active foster parent, you are eligible for a $500 referral bonus up to four times a year for referring others who become certified and accept and maintain a child!
