February 2, 2015 Ruston, LA – The Family Counseling Center, a program of Louisiana United Methodist Children and Family Services, is offering Child-Parent Relationship Training classes beginning Tuesday, February 3, 2015. The first of a two part series will be held each Tuesday night in February from 4:00pm-5:00pm at the facility located on the campus of Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home in Ruston.

Play Therapy is a form of counseling or psychotherapy that uses play to communicate with and help people, especially children, to prevent or resolve psychosocial challenges. This is thought to help them towards better social integration, growth and development, emotional modulation, and trauma resolution.

At the Family Counseling Center in Ruston, we have found the healing power of play is one of the most effective modes of therapy for our younger clients. During our Child-Parent Relationship Training, we will be teaching some valuable skills for increasing closeness and communication with your children. When children have problems, sometimes they don’t have the words to talk about them. Play helps children communicate feelings they may not understand or cannot express any other way.

Some of the skills being taught include:

  • How to help your child open up to you
  • Therapeutic Limit Setting
  • Recognizing emotional needs and building self-esteem
  • Fostering creativity, self-control, and self-responsibility

We hope you will take advantage of this great opportunity and encourage you to sign up with our office manager, Mrs. Stacy Bridges, at 318-255-5753. Classes will be held at 902 DeVille Lane, on 167 South across from Life Point Church.
