Press Release: Methodist Children’s Home of GNO Receives New License

October 14, 2013, Mandeville, LA – Methodist Children’s Home of Greater New Orleans in Mandeville has achieved licensure as a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility from Louisiana’s Department of Health and Hospitals. This new license is required of all children’s homes serving more than sixteen youth.

Methodist Children’s Home of Greater New Orleans provides intensive residential care for children who cannot live with their families or in other settings due to serious emotional or behavioral health problems which cannot be addressed by less intensive treatment settings. Each resident’s specific needs are identified and an active treatment plan is developed to direct treatment for each identified need. We work holistically to improve all areas of a troubled adolescents’ life by focusing treatment efforts.

According to Mrs. Marlin Giacona, Director of the Mandeville Home, “We are proud to be licensed as a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility. We have worked extremely hard to achieve this license. Our staff are ready to provide the most intensive level of residential care in Louisiana to children with the greatest behavioral and emotional needs.”

Rick Wheat, President/CEO of Louisiana United Methodist Children and Family Services, said, “We care for children who cannot care live elsewhere. Obtaining this license is another step in our history of providing exceptional care to children and families in southeast Louisiana. We celebrate this new license today, and we continue pursuing the next step in the region, the creation of a permanent home for Methodist Children’s Home of Greater New Orleans. We began this work in 1886. Today we are at the forefront of caring for children and adolescents. At the same time, we are preparing for the next 100 years of ministry to children and families in the New Orleans region.”
