One of the Home’s important “behind the scenes” functions is our Health Information Management (HIM) Department.  Without HIM, the agency could not stay on top of the voluminous information we maintain about our residents’ care and their active treatment plans.

HIM is responsible for daily operations and activities which enable the Home to focus on caring for some of Louisiana’s most troubled youth, such as the coding and billing for services rendered, transcription, credentialing, maintenance and release of records as needed and maintaining the newly implemented electronic health records system – KaleidaCare.

Overseeing HIM is Jan Yates. Jan has been with the agency for 12 years and during that time has seen and been part of many challenges and opportunities for growth. Jan said, “Since becoming a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF), we have learned and adapted to a very different environment with new roles and responsibilities.” Some of the accomplishments of the HIM team include building an entirely new coding and reimbursement department which successfully billed and acquired reimbursed funds 98% of the time for the agency’s three children’s home locations.

The HIM team has also recently worked at setting up and developing the Electronic Health Records to fit the particular needs of the agency. Jan has overseen the training of staff in all 3 locations and after 6 months will be preparing to upgrade the KaleidaCare system in July 2014.

As Director of HIM, Jan received the President’s Award for service. When asked what she most loves about her work, Jan said, “I love coming to work every day! I love the employees that I work with and I love the fact that our department is growing and that we are making a difference. No day is ever the same. I have great support and guidance when I need it. I look forward to retiring here and love the fact that family is always priority.”
