Community Service Project Day 3:
Our boys and girls have been writing encouraging letters to troops deployed on the USS Wasp. Several youth have displayed their artistic talents through drawings and paintings. They have comprised a care package with items such as coffee, Mardi Gras beads, candy, playing cards and other treats. Several of our youth talked about their own ambitions to join the Navy or the Marines when they grow up. Our kids were even able to watch a YouTube video of the USS Wasp and some of their troops celebrating Independence Day. Once the package was sealed, youth and staff said a prayer of protection over the troops who would receive it.
After a rainy day, our kids were eager to get outside and we had the perfect messy activity for them! Our boys measured and mixed oatmeal, bananas, and peanut butter together to make dog treats for the animal shelter. As the boys worked, some told funny stories of their own pets back home while other boys talked about what kind of pet they would like to one day own and care for.
Our boys read from the Bible about how God cares for all of His creation; dogs, birds, and most of all, us!
“Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?”
