Ruston, LA – July 2, 2015 1LT Joseph Barlow, a guardsman with the 528th Engineer Battalion out of Monroe, LA and an employee of Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home since 2003, recently presented Luke Allen, Vice President of Operations of Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home, a flag that was flown in Afghanistan during Barlow’s deployment. Since Barlow joined the guard in 2009 he has served his country through several stateside mobilizations in addition to the recent deployment to Afghanistan and Kuwait. During those periods of active duty, Barlow has had the solid support and encouragement of his employer.

Barlow said, “The flag is a token of my appreciation. I wanted to do something special for the agency to thank them for their support. Mr. Allen stayed in touch with me, sending letters to keep me updated on what was going on at the Home and sent care packages from the employees as well.”

The certificate of authenticity dedicating the flag to Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home and signed by Barlow’s commanders reads:

“This is to certify that the accompanying flag was flown on 11 SEP 2014 for 9 minutes and 11 seconds at the 528th Engineer Battalion Tactical Command Post at AFB Bagram, Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom XIV-XV. We present this flag in remembrance of the tragic event that occurred on 11 SEP 2001 and its honored history to you for all the support and encouragement you have given.”

Allen, who was recognized last November as a Patriotic Employer by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, said it is a privilege to have the flag. Allen stated, “It is an honor to be presented with such a distinguished gift.  Mr. Barlow has transitioned back into his Quality Assurance position after serving with the National Guard 528th Engineering Battalion.  We are fortunate to be able to work with and support our local troops.  Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home would like to thank all Armed Forces this July 4th for their commitment and dedication to the service of the United States of America.”

The flag will be displayed proudly in the Home’s administrative offices on the Ruston campus.
